Mouth sores are swellings or lesions that appear in and around the mouth including on the lips or tongue. They generally heal on their own after a week or two. The most common types of mouth sores are canker sores and cold sores (fever blisters).
The causes and severity of these mouth sores vary and could be an indication of a disease or disorder. Fortunately, there are various home remedies you can try at home to reduce and treat the discomforts brought by mouth sores.
Canker Mouth Sores Home Remedies
Salt and Baking Soda
You will need 2 teaspoon of salt or 1 teaspoon of baking soda including 1 glass of warm water. Mix the salt or baking soda with warm water. Rinse your mouth twice daily with the solution until the cankers sores are gone. You can also try a paste made out of baking soda with a little amount of water and apply this on the affected area of the mouth.
Alum Remedy
Prepare 1 teaspoon of alum powder. Put some alum powder on the canker sore to relieve the pain. At first, there will be a burning sensation that will disappear after a while. Do this routine two to three times a day.
Onion
Slice some pieces of onion and place it on your canker sores. Let it stay there for around 10 to 15 minutes. Afterwards, rinse your mouth with cold water. Onions are great for healing sores and alleviating the pain.
Tea Tree Oil
You need 3 to five drops of tea tree oil, ¼ cup of warm water and cotton ball. Make a solution using the tea tree oil and warm water. Soak the cotton ball in the solution you made. Hold the cotton ball against the affected area. Repeat this 3 to 4 times a day.

Green Tea
Get 1 tea bag of green tea and soak it in 1 cup of hot water. Leave it there for about 5 to 8 minutes. Then, remove the bag. Drink the tea 2 to 3 times a day. You can also have a tea bag compress to treat the sore. After you soak the green tea bag in hot water, let it cool down. Next, put the tea bag on the sore for about 10 to 15 minutes. Always use a fresh green tea bag and do the procedure every 1 to 2 hours.
Vanilla Extract
You will need pure vanilla extract and a cotton swab. Drench the cotton swab in vanilla extract. Apply this to the cold sore for few minutes. After 2 to 3 minutes, you can already remove it. Repeat the process 3 to 4 times every day until the cold sore disappears.
